Health Optimization Summit
Health Optimization Summit 2022
with Dr Satchin Panda
Summary
A conference talk for a health focused audience, and a good summary of the practical core of the circadian literature delivered in one sitting. The structure is simple. Morning light, a consistent sleep window, and all food inside a repeatable daily window.
What distinguishes it from the usual optimisation talk is that each recommendation is tied to a specific research finding rather than to a mechanism shaped story. Light works through melanopsin, the retinal sensor Dr Panda's group identified as indispensable for aligning the clock to ambient lighting. The eating window works because the clocks in liver and gut follow feeding rather than light, established in animals and since tested in more than 150 human clinical trials. The emphasis on consistency comes from the observation that organ clocks entrain to a repeated pattern and never settle on a pattern that shifts daily.
He is also direct about what the evidence does not yet support, which is less common at events of this kind. Efficient viewing if you want the whole practical picture quickly.
