Summary

A conversation aimed at people who already track their sleep and recovery, on what wearable data can and cannot tell you about your circadian rhythm, and which of the patterns it surfaces are worth acting on rather than worrying about.

Dr Panda comes to this as a builder as well as a researcher. To study circadian rhythms in people rather than in animals, his group developed an app and digital platform that collects daily patterns of sleep, activity and eating, and relates them to physiology captured by wearables including continuous glucose monitors. Run in collaboration with scientists and clinicians internationally, those studies found circadian disruption to be far more widespread than expected, and also showed health improving when interventions were personalised to an individual's actual pattern rather than to a general recommendation.

The practical thread is about signal versus noise. Which metrics reflect something real about your timing, and which are better ignored. Useful for anyone with more data than interpretation.
