Summary

A conversation for an audience already thinking seriously about ageing well, on why circadian rhythms weaken as we get older and what can be done to keep them robust. The amplitude of the daily rhythm flattens with age. Sleep fragments, hormonal cycles blunt, the difference between the body's day and night narrows, and much of what we call ageing tracks that flattening.

Dr Panda's framing is characteristically concrete. Longevity is built one healthy day at a time, and the basic unit of a long life is a day lived with good energy in the morning, real capacity through the day and proper sleep at night. Add those days and healthy lifespan extends. Lose one to a broken rhythm and you also accumulate a little risk. His research connects healthy rhythms to lower risk across inflammation, cardiovascular disease, cancer and dementia.

The practical portion covers the same accessible levers of light, sleep timing, eating window and movement, with attention to how they change in later decades.
