Your gut microbes have a schedule too

Trillions of microbes live in your gut. Their numbers and activity rise and fall over the day.

In mice that eat at consistent times, these daily swings are strong. When food is available around the clock, many of the rhythms flatten.

We are still learning what this means for people. But it is one more sign that when we eat reaches well beyond the stomach.
